| i'm definitely allergic to DUST. moved out to the bay area during labor day weekend. packed boxes/suitcases. this weekend we moved cliff's parent's company to another office park. more packing of boxes and lifting. i guess lifting boxes counts as a workout. bc those quads hurt later! one thing i notice is there are a lot more plazas out here. not just asian plazas with boba, noddle shops, tea stations (yum), chinese grocery stores, but american chains - coscto, walgreens, and 5 different grocery stores. but bc there are so many, it's hard to use them as landmarks bc they all look the SAME! today i met a lady at church who is moving to DC with her family. she asked if the east coast will have asian plazas like those in california. i don't think anywhere will have as much to offer consumers as CA. i.e. MA has our Super 88. wahhooo! that sprung up on campus late, but in time for grad school and it was awesome. hehe. but i told her that it'll definitely be colder and there's a lot more historial / cultural events in DC. and FREE. yeah! | | |
| one my first purchases in the bay area is: a basil plant from trader joe's 2.99!!! muahah. it's got at last 4 stalks of blooming leaves, with lots ready for plucking. i used some tonight for jess's pasta salad recipe. yum. i'll keep a updated on my green thumb and vegetation purchases. i wasn't allowed to bring any living green things to the sunshine state as a migrant from the east coast. alas, i must get more! ;) miss ya all on the east!

| if you could be a tree? which one would you be?
i took advantage of the beautiful weather in boston yesterday to walk around the boston commons and garden during lunch. earlier in the winter, i took a SLR photography class and bought E-6 slide film, but didn't get to do the assignment. of course, i neglected to store the film in the fridge, so decided that i had better shoot the film soon. my hope is to capture all my favorite places in boston on this set of slides.
my excursion to the boston garden was very peaceful. i tried taking some photos where i kept the cherry blossom tree branch in focus and the background of the hancock building out of focus and vice versa. as i wandered my way to the other side of the man-made pond, i came met my favorite trees - the tall and shy willow trees. they sway so gracefully, i couldn't figure out how to capture its presence, or the movement of its branches in the wind (i need a tripod, but i do have not thee). the wind blew the branches effortlessly. it was very calm. it made me calm. i think another reason why i admire the willow tree is that it's very romantic.

| i've been cooking a lot more lately. it's a good outlet for me. i have
a few magazine subscriptions that have recipe sections that really
inspire me - one is natural health and the other is shape. so i made
a beef stew last night with beef chuck, carrots, potatoes, celery,
yellow onion, green onion, herbs, red wine, crushed tomato, and
barley. i love barley. it's got that brown rice texture to
it. mmm. so the stew came out pretty well, except that beef could
have been boiled longer (i don't have a slow cooker). hehe. i
even used a cheesecloth satchel to hold all the herbs i used too
(basil, thyme, rosemary). heh heh. i'm always resistant to
following directions... cooking directions, bc i like to experiment.
maybe it's bc i'm lazy and i don't want to do the conversions.
this time, my creation adds another tally to the column: "successful
dish prepared without recipe"

| shanghai was great. i spent a week there with cliff and his family. it was a good time of eating "xiao loong tan bao" every meal among other foods! i'll post more later, but it's good to be back. finished the jet-lag battle and back to the grind of work.
one thing i have learned to appreciate from my travels is: enjoying the clean air of boston. | | |
